Film Description: This 1984 American action film directed by John Milius depicts an alternate 1980s in which the United States has become estranged from its European allies and the Soviet Union has grown stronger. In response to this change in the power dynamic, the Soviet Union invades America and attacks several key American cities with nuclear strikes. The film follows a group of resistance fighters, mostly composed of high school students, in a small Colorado town. In essence, the American fears of a Soviet invasion, so competently mocked in the 1966 film The Russians are Coming, the Russians are Coming, are confirmed, amplified, and expertly dramatized in this popular Hollywood production. The organization Gun Owners of America honored the director Milius for “dramatically depicting the importance in our time of the Second Amendment.”
