Film Description: This 1964 American film directed by Stanley Kubrick satirizes the theory of Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD), and takes delight in pointing the absurdities in both American and Soviet policies during the Cold War. In the film, U.S. Air Force General Jack Ripper goes completely insane and sends his bomber wing to destroy the U.S.S.R. He thinks that the communists are conspiring to pollute the “precious bodily fluids” of the American people. Dr. Strangelove is the U.S. president’s wheelchair bound scientific advisor, who just so happens to be a former Nazi as well.
The selection of clips here reveals a different way in which this film mocks Cold War conventions and paranoia.
